A Malaria/Infectious Diseases Stakeholder’s Symposium was held at the HopeXchange Medical Center in the middle of August. It was Co-Chaired by Dr. Michael Cappello – Professor of Pediatrics, Microbial Pathogenesis and Public Health at Yale University and Chair of Council on African Studies and Dr. Francesco Castelli – Professor of Infectious Diseases and Tropical Medicine at the University of Brescia, Italy and a UNESCO Chair. From the local scene, particularly noteworthy was the active participation of Dr. Tsiri Agbenyega, – Professor of Child Health and Provost of KNUST University and a Principal Investigator on the PATH-Malaria Vaccine Initiative and Dr Michael Wilson – Deputy Director of the Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research, University of Ghana. The Symposium included a hands-on approach when the participating leading experts were exposed to a rural medical outreach that hopeXchange carries out periodically in the remote parts of Ghana.
